“TOÂ HIM BE THE GLORY…FOREVER AND EVER”
at May 31, 2025
Let us read 1 Peter 5:6-11, for the last time in this series. It is a passage filled with knowledge that is much required for our spiritual understanding and growth.
– “6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. 10 But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. 11 To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.” – 1 Peter 5:6-11
Let us look at 1 Peter 5:11 to see what truths we can learn from it, for our meditation this morning.
– “11 To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.” – 1 Peter 5:11
Peter point is to one of the most neglected aspects of our walk with the LORD – Praising and worshipping God, purely for who He is, and not for what He has done. The reason being, there is none who deserves glory and honour than the LORD God Almighty, the God our Creator – the God of the Bible. Peter, knowing this very well, writes as the conclusion of his first epistle, words that should help us see this very important truth. We too are to give all the glory and honour to God, for who He truly is. For He alone rightly deserves it.
What Peter writes here is a echo of what the faithful children of God had been saying all along in the Old Testament.
– “1 Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth’s sake.” – Psalm 115:1
– “34 And at the end of the time I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me; and I blessed the Most High and praised and honored Him who lives forever: For His dominion is an everlasting dominion, And His kingdom is from generation to generation. 35 All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; He does according to His will in the army of heaven And among the inhabitants of the earth. No one can restrain His hand Or say to Him, “What have You done?” – Daniel 4:34-35
– “10 Wherefore David blessed the LORD before all the congregation: and David said, Blessed be thou, LORD God of Israel our father, for ever and ever. 11 Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all.” – 1 Chronicles 29:10-11
How about us? Who do we perceive, the God of the Bible to be? Do we see Him as a benevolent benefactor, to whom we run, because we need something from Him? Would we praise Him without expecting anything in return from Him? Would we praise and worship Him purely for who He is? Would we praise and worship God, even if He chooses not to help us, not do anything for us, for the rest of our lives? These are questions worth asking, and worth answering, honestly and sincerely.
May the LORD help us to be true worshippers of the LORD God Almighty, from whom we expect nothing, except whatever He chooses to give out of His abundant grace and mercy. Even so the LORD help us.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
The worship to which we are called in our renewed state is far too important to be left to personal preferences, to whims, or to marketing strategies. It is the pleasing of God that is at the heart of worship. Therefore, our worship must be informed at every point by the Word of God as we seek God’s own instructions for worship that is pleasing to Him.
